I'd like to begin with an apology. Truly, I feel horrific about not submitting my art and photography lately. Honestly, I actually have quite a bit of new stuff (that I'm actually proud of for once) to share. It's just a matter of time, of scanning and uploading and what-not. My school work has been getting in the way of my artwork which is kind of sad. But, ah well! There's time for everything, but not everyday. So I am sorry, and I will be sure to submit some more items sooner or later... probably later!
As many of you know I am a Civil War Reenactor. (Yes, I already know, geek central), but I'm very proud of it! I'm a part of the 35th Virginia Cavalry. We are attending...DRUMROLL PLEASE.... THE GETTYSBURG 150TH ANNIVERSARY! July 4th-7th.
There are going to be plenty of events: reenactments, tours, the opening of the Seminary Hill Museum, An Olden-Time Ball, etc!!
But what terrifies me the most is the amount of people. There are going to be Professional Filmmakers with their credentials, Journalists from all over the world, Newscasts, Interviewers, everything! Tourists are estimated between 50,000 and 75,000. o.o AND reenactors already signed up and ready to go (myself included) are 13,000. Wowza. I can't even comprehend that. I'm terrified of crowds--even my school. (*cough* not to mention the school I attend has a middleschool wing and the high school and there are only a little over 150 kids.) BUT, this will be different I'm thinking. You know? It's not like everybody knows WHO I am, so I think I will be fine. I'm more enthralled with the idea more than anything- I can't get if off my mind. A few years back, the Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau spoke on behalf of the 145th anniversary, stating it was one of the largest they have seen EVER. Now they are talking of the 150th and have written "The 145th was only a dry run for the 150th!" We will be arriving on the 3rd, and camping that night and the following nights. At night I portray a woman, by day a soldier. (Sounds kind of creepy now that I say that.) But I have a very nice, modest, casual dress. It's pale yellow with hints of light blue checkering. Comfy, long sleeve, and long "skirt" to it, plus it's actually quite slimming!ha. But I cannot wait to go into battle. Except I have heard a lot of the men that realize you are a female reenactor oppose it greatly. So greatly that when we do our charge they hit harder with the sabers than they are supposed to AND to make matters worse, they ram their horses into yours. I'm not too impressed with that fact as I'm not very strong and have difficulty even holding my saber. lol. So I don't need some sexist buffoon starting with me. Well, I know my horse will protect me (whichever one I choose to bring)... or turn and burn. But either way I'm excited to go back in time!
So we all know this thing is going to be HUMONGOUS! Well...
I will be going into battle (mostly) as a confederate, although we do have some Federal scenarios so I have to be quick with my wardrobe change! I am in Cavalry (Hence the reason I'm bringing my horse, as I'm a mounted soldier.) But, I'm at a knot as to which horse to bring. I'm thinking either Comanche or Patches. As my other horses are out of the question for various reasons! The problem with Comanche is he is tiny, he's kinda afraid of gunfires (not tremendously so), and he doesn't canter immediately on command. But He looks the part! He does! Just like a war horse. And the man in charge of my regiment gave him to me as he was going to be his work horse but was too small. Patches on the otherhand is not at all afraid of loud noises, I have had him longer so know when he is going to spook and how- so I can handle it, He canters on command... but HE'S A PAINT HORSE. *slaps hand on head* There weren't paint horses, for sure on the Federal Side (or many recorded on the Confederate side) in the Civil War. So he doesn't look the part. But I don't think many tourists will actually know, do you? hmph, oh well. I will be attending a drill meet on the Last Sunday of April with my regiment and will be bringing both horses. We are doing gunfires, swordfights, charges, formations, the works. I suppose I can narrow down my decision there. It's so difficult though!!! On the bright side, I have most of my gear together. Minus the saddle, breastplate, and bridle/bit. But my iniform is in snazzy condition, but I am lacking my Fed uniform--which I need to get. Oh well, I got everything at a good price. Unfortunately, I need a new pistol. But I think I may just borrow one for the season as I'm lacking cash. ha. I have my new saber. Gosh is that thing heavy!
that's my messy update for now that most likely nobody will read. ha!
Have a wonderful day/night/evening/morning/dawn/midday/noon--
whatever time it is-- make it wonderful!
